Social Studies Week 4

How will we get the history background we need to begin discussing World War I? What big world events were happening during each presidency? Why do historians love timelines? This week, we begin the timeline project to find out! The plan is to finish off our “my maps” on google maps and begin the timeline project by mid-week. Your My Map is due on Wednesday. C.S.C. – Week 14

Overview

Welcome back folks! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable break. This week in C.S.C. we are going to finish our asset maps and reflections, and share some of the community assets that we believe are vital to a sustainable community. We will conclude the week by introducing our case study portfolio assignment. We will begin with “food,” a case study that intersects all levels of community, and frankly an issue that is impossible to avoid as a human living in communities. C.S.C. – Week 12

Overview

This week we will complete the Ishmael summative assessment. Groups that are interested in sharing their projects with the class will have the opportunity. We’ll move into our next unit which will have us taking a good strong look at the resources and assets that we share in our home communities. For our next in-class project we will be building community asset maps. Check-in soon for additional resources.

C.S.C. – Week 11

Overview

We will conclude our study of Ishmael by debriefing the key ideas of the book and brain storming some of the issues that we perceive as challenges to our communities in the coming years. Although the focus of the week will be demonstrating our knowledge of the message of the novel, we will also be using our time together to begin to transition towards identifying and understanding attributes and impediments in building and maintaining whole communities.
Some Essential Questions that we will tackle:

  • How has our sense of place as a species influence our interactions with the living world?
  • How do we identify challenges that face our community?
